Makai Lever - DX
Makai Lever - DX
The Makai Lever is a cross between a Fanta Lever and a Crown / Samducksa Lever. At the time of this writing, the only "NON PREMIUM/CUSTOM" full collar Fanta being sold is the Myoungshin Fanta (2019 Version). The Samducksa 303/307/309 also have full collar options, but lack fanta grommet compatibility that is preferred by many. The goal of this lever is to fix the known issues with the affordable full collar levers on the market while keeping costs as low as possible.

Problems and Solutions Addressed:
-
Mounting Compatibility:
Problem: The Myoungshin Fanta and Samducksa 303/309 Full Collar uses the old style mounting holes on the body that require the mounting plate to be installed sideways for installation in most fightsticks.
Solution: The Makai Lever combines the Alpha Lever Lower body (compatible with most mounting brackets) with the Full Collar Top housing insert of the Myoungshin Fanta. This creates a new compatibility issue regarding shaft, bobbin, and actuator, explained below in items 3 and 4.
-
Switch Stabilization:
Problem: The Myoungshin Fanta and Samducksa Full Collar variants occasionally have uneven switch mounting posts. Since these levers use only 4 screws, improper switch installation can apply more pressure to one corner of the switch, resulting in an uneven switch placement.
Solution: A switch stabilizer "under plate" (1mm-1.2mm) is installed below the switches to create an equalized horizontal mounting surface for the microswitches. Unlike the metal surface under each switch on the Benylis lever, this plate is cut to go around each lever post and holes. A second plate, switch "cover plate" (1.2mm) is installed on top of the microswitches to ensure equal pressure is applied to the entire surface of the microswitches. This method was used by Green Lever and Magic Lever on their Modifications of the original "Vanilla" Myoungshin Fanta.
-
Shaft Compatibility:
Problem: The Myoungshin Fanta is 9mm but does not currently offer a replacement shaft with 9mm options and or different bat top colors. The Samducksa series full collar levers provide a variety of options for color, removable or fixed bat tops, as well as capsule options. However, the Samducksa Shafts are not compatible with Fanta Bobbins. Using a Samducksa Bobbin on a Fanta will result in further quality issues.
Solution: The Makai Lever uses a custom Acetal/POM/Delrin Core (bobbin) that is designed to fit a Fanta Grommet but has the inner diameter opening compatible for Samducksa shafts. This allows for Samducksa shafts to be used with Fanta Style Levers, unlocking various Samducksa Integrated Bat tops, or separately purchased DX Removable shafts that can use any topper available.
-
Actuator Compatibility:
Problem: As mentioned previously, even if you do a traditional "Cuujin" style setup (using a Samducksa bobbin and shaft on a fanta lever), there are a few quality issues to include the bobbin scraping the lever housing, as well as limited actuator compatibility. The CDP 15.3 actuator works with varied results, but still limits proper function. Those who have Sanjuks Parts can do much of the same modifications, but these are costly.
Solution: The Makai Lever uses a custom Actuator Head that has an inner diameter hole that accepts Samducksa Shafts. Unlike Samducksa actuators, this acutator is stepped with a smaller lower portion to allow for proper throw balance while giving moderate input actuation. This actuator also is designed specifically for this mod setup, so the wider portion is thinner than most, to ensure it does not catch against the truncated square opening on the fanta body (as you may experience with other mods).
-
Shaft Spin:
Problem: Like most commercial levers sold, the Myoungshin Fanta and Samducksa series levers all include some level of shaft spin/wobble. This is undesirable to most Korean Lever users.
Solution: The custom bobbin and actuator have an inner diameter opening that allows for full shaft spin if the user desires. However, each lever includes a shaft spacer kit composed of 0.1mm and 0.3mm metal shaft spacers that can be placed between the actuator and the bobbin. This allows the user to remove some of the wobble/spin or all of it, per preference.
-
General Quality Control:
Problem: Most levers are made in bulk at factories where they are partially or fully assembled. This can also quality control issues during assembly.
Solution: Since the Makai Lever is made up of 2 Custom CNC parts and a variety of parts purchased from existing manufacturers, each lever is assembled by hand and inspected prior to shipment.
-
Affordability:
Problem: Current levers that are available that solve the above mentioned issues are generally made by custom builders or consist of all premium materials like Delrin or Aluminum bodies. These levers are costly, especially for those new to the hobby that want to try a quality lever.
Solution: The Makai Lever uses existing parts that are modified to feel more premium while keeping costs low. The lever also comes in two configurations, B at a lower cost and A at a higher cost. The B model uses parts that provide the same functional solutions, without premium materials. The A model uses stainless steel parts that add increased durability, but are mainly just more premium in feel/aesthetic.
